Employer Nomination Scheme Visa (Subclass 186)

Introduction:

The Employer Nomination Scheme is designed for skilled migrants who want to work in Australia. It’s a two-step visa, with the applicant first being nominated by an Australian employer, and then applying for the visa based on the nominated stream. It is a permanent residence visa and part of the Australian Permanent Employer Visa Scheme. Applicants can apply for this visa in or outside Australia. The applicant’s family members can be included in the visa application if they are eligible.

 

Streams:
  1. Temporary Residence Transition stream: applicable to applicants who hold 457, TSS visas, having been worked for their employer who sponsored them for at least 3 years full time, and their employers intend to provide them a permanent position
  2. Direct Entry stream: applicable to applicants nominated by employers for this stream, applicants who have never or temporarily worked in Australia, and temporary residents who’re not eligible for applying for permanent residence
  3. Labour Agreement stream: applicable to applicants nominated by an eligible Australian employer and working under labor agreements
With this visa, you can
  1. Live in Australia indefinitely
  2. Work and study in Australia
  3. Enrol in Australia medical insurance
  4. Directly become an Australian permanent resident
  5. Apply for Australian citizenship if eligible
  6. Sponsor eligible relatives to become permanent residents
  7. Freely travel to and from Australia
Eligibility
  1. Be nominated by an Australian employer
  2. Under 45 years old
  3. Have relevant professional skills and qualifications
  4. Have the required English language ability
  5. Meet health and character requirements
  6. Meet other requirements of the visa stream
Additional Requirements for Temporary Residence Transition stream
  1. No skills assessment
  2. IELTS no less than 6 points for each of the 4 components
  3. Have worked for your employer for at least 3 years full time while holding a subclass 457 or TSS visa
Additional Requirements for Direct Entry stream
  1. Have a positive skills assessment
  2. At least three years of relevant work experience
  3. IELTS no less than 6 points for each of the 4 components
