Vocational Education and Training

VET is a direct entry into the workforce and pathway to tertiary education

Australian Vocational Education and Training (VET) focuses on providing specific and practical work skills and knowledge for students and preparing them for careers.

It offers a wide range of courses relevant to a variety of occupations and industries, covering business, trade, hospitality, agriculture and more. You can find courses that interest you and lead to your dream career. Some occupations of VET are on the skilled migration list. For international students with immigration tendencies, VET can help them obtain Australian permanent residence visas.

Compared to other forms of education, VET courses usually have lower entry requirements, which is easier for students. VET courses are carefully designed to meet the needs of the current industry and your employer. VET works closely with the industry, develops training policies with the help of industry and employer groups, provides professional training relevant to your course, and gives you the opportunity to learn practical work skills from Australia’s leading industry experts so that you can enter the workforce in a relatively short time.

VET is a great option if you

  • Enter the workplace for the first time
  • Return to the workplace
  • Seek self-improvement
  • Change career

VET courses are delivered by accredited Australian educational institutions. They have strong practical content oriented towards training you for a specific occupation. Providers must register to offer nationally accredited courses and AQF accredited VET qualifications or to receive government funding for VET courses.

VET in Australia is mainly provided by Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), such as Technical and Further Education (TAFE) institutes and private universities, so the education quality is guaranteed, and the qualifications issued to students are recognized nationally. Some universities offer VET courses in addition to higher education courses. There are about 4,000 RTOs in Australia, located in every state or territory, which offer industry-relevant courses, high-quality teaching and professional vocational training, and award nationally-recognised qualifications.
